KEN CHEE – A Self-Made Millionaire at the Age of 34 

Ken came from a very humble family background and was taken care of by his grandmother since he was young. His father worked as a simple bus driver and together they lived in a three-room public housing flat in Singapore. During the 1985 Pan Electric crisis, Ken’s father got burned badly in the stock market and the family lost everything in the financial crisis. It was then that Ken vowed to learn everything he could about the world of money and master the art of investing.

In 1994, Ken represented Singapore Polytechnic in Singapore’s first ever Singapore International Monetary Exchange (SIMEX) Challenge and was the first runner-up for making $960,000 in paper trades during the ten-day challenge.

After graduating from the University of Queensland, Ken then joined a Swiss financial firm, Telekurs Finance (now known as SIX Telekurs) from 2001 to 2004. During his employment, he realized that being an employee could never make him rich. He decided to step out of the corporate world and started his first business, a brand consultancy firm, JM Asia Pte Ltd, with a start-up capital of only $9. Within the short span of 18 months, JM Asia generated well over $1,400,000 in revenue. As a symbol of recognition for his entrepreneurial efforts, Ken was awarded the Spirit of Enterprise award which was presented by SR Nathan, then President of Singapore, in 2005.

In 2008, he decided to turn his passion into a business. Together with Clive Tan, they set up a training and investment firm, 8 Investment Pte Ltd, with the vision of educating people about investing and taking charge of their financial future.

Ken always believes in the 3R approach to Value Investing. That is, to invest in companies with the “Right Business Model” in the “Right Industry” that has the “Right Management” at the “Right Price”. His investing strategies have allowed him and his students to generate 11-67% of annual returns from their investments, excluding the additional passive income made from their investment dividends.

With his wealth of experience, results and recognition, Ken is often featured in national newspapers such as The Strait Times, The Sunday Times, My Paper as well as in magazines such as Reader’s Digest, Smart Investors and Shares Investments. Today, Ken is very much dedicated to pay it forward by continuing to educate people to take charge of their financial future.

Rashidi also runs a islamic’s syariah based principal gold trading business in Shah Alam, Selangor; a branch for Genneva Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Genneva Malaysia is a multi-national operation company that deals only in gold bullion. Rashidi now is writing a script for his first feature-film release (working title “Mencari Sakti”), to be produced by Tayangan Unggul. He currently plans to pursue his Masters Degree in Business Administration.
