STARHILL Gallery celebrated the official opening of the Debenhams flagship store recently in a grand style with British designer Julien Macdonald.
More than 300 guests and celebrities attended the stylish affair, which was held at the Explore floor where the 37,000sq ft store is located.
The evening began with welcoming speeches from YTL Land and YTL Hotels vice-president Joseph Yeoh and Debenhams United Kingdom international director Francis McAuley.
“Starhill Gallery marks another significant milestone by celebrating the launch of one of Britain’s leading department store chain.
“One will discover the largest collection of designers at Debenhams apparel available in South-East Asia, fine furnishings and home accessories here, reaffirming Starhill Gallery’s status as a definite destination for discerning shoppers,” said Yeoh.
The evening also saw models strutting down the runway in the latest designer collections exclusive to Debenhams by British designers such as Henry Holland, Jasper Conran, Macdonald, John Rocha, Matthew Williamson as well as The Principles range by Ben de Lisi.
The finale of the fashion show highlighted Macdonald’s recently launched line ‘Diamond’.
A special raffles draw was held and three winners walked away with shopping vouchers worth RM5,000, RM2,500 and RM1,000 each to be spent at the store, compliments of Debenhams.
Guests also witnessed a ribbon-cutting ceremony by British High Commissioner Simon Featherstone, YTL Corporation Bhd managing director Tan Sri Dr Francis Yeoh, Joseph, McAuley and Macdonald to officiate the store.
Among celebrities spotted were Andrea Fonseka, Hans Isaac and Deborah Henry.
The first 150 customers received a free Debenhams eco tote bag and Union Jack-themed travel-size umbrella with a minimum purchase of RM250.
Debenhams will also feature a wide range of exclusive designer wear new to Malaysia, which includes Jeff Banks for men and Ted Baker for kids.
Macdonald, nicknamed the ‘King of Glamour’ grew up in South Wales, United Kingdom having a keen interest in design from a young age.
In 2003, he began designing his Star by Julien Macdonald range for Debenhams.
This has since expanded to include women’s occasion wear, accessories and home furnishings.
